BOSS EMONG MAKES IT BACK-TO-BACK IN SILVER CUP

Kennedy Morales Stable’s flag-bearer and 2022 Horse of the Year Boss Emong (Dance City out of Chica Una bred by Antonio “Tony ” Tan Jr.) took the 2023 Philracom-PCSO Silver Cup anew making him the latest back-to-back winner since Wind Blown did the trick in 2001 and 2002.

The grey galloper benefitted from the calculated planning by his connections led by Morales, trainer Ernesto “Boy Gare” Roxas and jockey Dan “The Jackhammer” Camanero in traversing the 1800m journey in 1:51.6 with quarters of 14-22′-24′-23′-27.

The multi-titled Boss Emong, who claims the MetroTurf as his home court, broke out of the gate in second behind King Tiger who set the early fractions. That is, until the last half-mile where Camanero as if saying, “It’s time to shine boy,” took over the lead and was now just waiting for the attack of the stayers. And that charge came at the last 400m.

This was where top pick Big Lagoon and Don Julio made their bid for glory. But the eventual winner just had enough horse to cross the wire ahead of a game Don Julio. Third went to Big Lagoon with three-year-old Jaguar finishing fourth.

“Before anything else, I’d like to thank the good General Manager of the PCSO, Mr. Mel Robles and the officers with him. Without the able support of the PCSO, we would not have this type of grand races,” Philracom Chairman Reli de Leon said.

He adds, “With their support, the horseracing industry can achieve contributing to the country’s efforts in sports tourism. And to Boss Emong’s connections, congratulations.”

PCSO GM Mel Robles on his part said, “Congratulations to the winners and to the Philracom led by Chairman de Leon in boosting the local horseracing industry. Rest assured that the PCSO will always be there to bring top notch racing. See you at the Presidential Gold Cup this December.”
